The Morgan Plus 8 was wider and more imposing than its predecessors. In the early cars, the overall width was 4ft 9in, with a track of 4ft 1in. This spread wider in years to come when in August of 1973, the track was measured at 4ft 3in at the front and 4ft 4in at the rear, with the total width equalling 4ft 11 in.

Back in '68, Morgan launched the Plus 8 with a 3.5-liter V-8; this new car is powered by a thumping 4.8-liter V-8 supplied by BMW and hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox. Morgan has worked.

Morgan Plus 8. A late entry into the "American V8 in a British car" club in 1968, the Plus 8 was a particularly successful application of the formula thanks to its light weight and time-proven chassis. Rover-sourced engines (built on license from Buick) grew over time from 3.5 to 4.6 liters, and European-market consumers even got a 4.8-liter.

The Morgan Plus 8 is one of the best-selling cars ever made by the storied British automaker. It remained in production from 1968 until 2004 and there have been two newer production cars released since that borrowed its name and its V8-powered spirit. The Plus 8 was developed in the late 1960s based on the earlier Morgan Plus 4 platform, a car.

Three years ago, the last Morgan Plus 8 rolled off the line at the Pickersleigh Road factory in Malvern, Worcestershire. Or so Morgan thought, until the discovery of nine unused Plus 8 platforms. The V8 Morgan would live again… Endowed with the GTR moniker, the first of these Plus 8s has now completed build, and it's unlike any Plus 8 ever.

In August 2018, my 1969 Morgan Plus 8 was comprehensively destroyed in a mudslide during a severe rainstorm, but in October I heard through my local club - the Pacific Morgan Owners' Group (PacMOG) - that an iconic car might be coming to the market.. The car, known here in British Columbia as 'GB's last Morgan', was a 1972 Plus 8. Come the end of November, it was safely tucked up.

It's an enigma, the Morgan Plus 8 and has been for much of the past 50 years. Produced by a firm which defiantly appeared to resist progress and preferred to cling doggedly to its old-fashioned wood-framed bodywork and labour-intensive hand assembly methods, the Plus 8 also had the distinction of being Britain's fastest-accelerating car at one point, exhibiting a fearsome pace which belied.
